One of the many reasons I adore summertime is because the grocery stores are full of fresh, gorgeous strawberries. There’s no doubt these juicy berries are tasty, but did you know your skin will drink up the nutrients found in these red gems?
Strawberries contain folic acid, which aids in cell regeneration and the production of new cells. They’re also packed with more free-radical fighting Vitamin C per serving than oranges and grapefruit! Vitamin C promotes cell health and collagen production. Strawberries also contain ellagic acid, which prevents collagen destruction and has a photoprotective effect that works against UV damage. All of this adds up to skin that looks fresh and younger. Yes, please!
Ellagic acid and other skin lightening extracts in strawberries also reduce the appearance of dark spots such as freckles and age spots. And finally, the Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), Vitamin C, salicylic acid, and flavonoids found in strawberries reduce excess oil, making them excellent for acne-prone skin. So many benefits in one fruit!
Here’s a simple face mask that combines the powerful effects of strawberries with the anti-bacterial and moisturizing effects of honey and the brightening effects of lemon:
3 ripe strawberries
1 tbsp organic honey
1 lemon wedge (appx 1 tsp)
Remove the stem of the strawberries and place them in a small bowl.
Add the honey and squeeze the juice of the lemon wedge into the bowl.
Mash with a fork until there are no large clumps.
Apply to face and décolletage with clean fingers (if applying to the latter, make sure your wearing a low-neck shirt that the mask won’t stain).
Leave on for 10 min. Rinse off with warm water.
I’d love to hear from you about your experience with this face mask or if you have a great recipe for healthy skin using strawberries. Please post below or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
