I’m inviting you to join me in choosing a word or short phrase that will guide your thoughts + actions in 2016. We’re much more likely to keep our “word” than a lofty New Year’s Resolution that you may achieve well before the year’s end (that’s IF you’ve set a SMART goal in the first place!). Plus, I think you’ll find that choosing a word or short phrase to live by is a healthy + fun exercise in itself.
Last year, I chose the phrase “embracing the unknown,” and boy did I honor my promise. This phrase set the tone for what I wanted to accomplish, and when times were tough – especially as the launch date of MADE was pushed back umpteen times – this phrase kept my spirit filled with hope + tenacity. As my savings dwindled to the zero line, I focused on this phrase and leaned into my severe discomfort with uncertainty (Who likes uncertainty, especially when money is involved? Still, my relationship with the dreaded unknown and uncontrollable needed some work.). By embracing the unknown in 2015, I found peace, confidence, and comfort in the risks I took as an entrepreneur. I grew professionally + personally in ways I never imagined. I’m finding the power of this experience is impossible to put into words, and I think that speaks for itself. I wish you may experience this loss of words next year as your reflect on your word (terrible pun not intended, but oh so appropriate!).
This year, I’ve chosen the phrase “create + connect” as my compass for 2016. MADE is founded on providing ways for busy women to have more creativity + connectivity in their lives, and after a year of introverted hustling to launch my company online, I’m feeling the need to manifest these principles in my own life more. Practice what I preach? What an excellent idea! So far, I’ve already reached out to dear friends I lost touch with last year as I dedicated my time to MADE, and I’m having fun finding new ways to feed my creative spirit (making products is not as fun as it used to be). It’s not even the end of January and I’m already reaping the benefits of my promise. Gratitude.
So, my lovelies, what’s your word? I’d love for you to share your word or phrase and why it’s important to you in 2016. Also, I welcome you to share this post with friends who may reap the benefits of choosing choosing their own word or short phrase as well. I send my warmest regards to you for the best year yet.
